Josh is a member of the USRowing National Team representing our country at the highest level of international competition. Specializing in the double sculls, he set the world best time during the Time Trials in the CJM2x at the 2021 World Rowing Coastal Championships/Beach Sprints Finals, finishing in 6th overall.
Josh started rowing in the Fall of 2018 when longtime friend Jacob Berger invited him to come to a practice at Lake Oswego Community Rowing. Quickly, he fell in love with the sport. Truly, how could anyone dislike spending early mornings and warm afternoons gliding over reflective glass on the Willamette river in boats with your best friends?
After COVID-19 hit, Josh and a few friends started FAST Rowing (Forever Ape Strong Team) where they would form an isolation bubble and train together while watching movies. At the same time, Josh was elected the Team Captain of the LOCR Blue Team, which he led in virtual workouts through the first wave of lockdowns. In 2020, Josh was nominated to the Junior National Team for their Summer Training programme after placing 8th in the lightweight single at Nationals. By the end of the season, Josh had racked up over 3,000,000 meters rowed on the ergometer.
As restrictions began to lift, Josh joined Rose City Rowing Club where he found a great group of peers to socialize and row with through the 2021 Season. Through regimented training by supportive teammates and insightful coaches, Josh quickly picked up podium finishes in races across the Pacific Northwest. He sat in the Bow and 2 seat of the Rose City Rowing Club Eights that were Oregon State Champions and raced at Nationals in 2021 and 2022.
In 2021, Josh and teammate Aidan Ehrismann qualified for a bid at the 2021 US Trials, where they prevailed in the Grand Finals despite a lackluster Time Trial, winning in their category and being named to the USRowing National Team. Both were subsequently admitted to the Olympic Development Program and competed internationally for the USA in the 2021 and 2022 season.
After graduating from high school, Josh went D1 as a student-athlete for Yale Lightweight Crew, where he placed 2nd at the Head of the Housatonic. Currently, he's taking some time off from the sport to better focus on his Academic Pursuits in Space Policy and LLM projects. Nevertheless, you will still find him late nights in the basement of Payne Whitney Gym or occasionally at the Gilder Boathouse.
